Farm description

This is a small acreage next to a larger farm of 100 or more acres. The large farm is mainly used to raise beef cattle. My home and land is zoned as mixed residential and commercial along with agriculturical. I was raised on a farm and bought this property with the hopes of producing herbs, vegetables, berries, flower gardens, and other viable crops. I have done some limited gardening on a trial basis, and with little or next to no formal structure; have managed a good yield of the following: tomatoes, green peppers, red peppers, lettuce, beans, snow peas, cucumbers, broccoli, carrots and other root vegetables. I even had a squash re-seed itself along my rock garden with a lush robust vine trailing down the steps. There are also flourishing raspberry/blackberry bushes scattered around the property. As well I have grown parsley, thyme, lavender and other herbs. All this with minimal effort and expertise. This has re-inforced my desire to do more on a larger scale and maximize the fertile growing space.

Farm opportunity

I would like to partner with an individual or couple who have the energy, drive and vision to build this from the ground up; and grow with and learn from each other as we go along. I have plans to build a workshop with living space above. I also want to incorporate a tiny home or 3 season cabin in the woods on my property. There are flexible living arrangements available, and my hope is that whoever I partner with will eventually take over the main home and assume the greater responsibilty of the farm business as I go into retirement. A long term arrangement to buy me out is the desired future outcome. I am emotionally and spiritually attached to this land, and want to see someone applying sustainable responsible stewardship for future generations. I am in a unique, one of a kind location, in that I am only 1 km from the center of town; which is a mecca for thousands of tourists over the summer. It is attracting more and more long term residents from the GTA and other areas, and it is a very desirable area in which to live. A half hour to Lindsay, 1 hour to Peterborough and Oshawa, and 2 hours to Toronto. Some of the local attractions are the locks, the neighbouring town of Bobcaygeon, and of course, the lakes! There is also the old rail trail, which is enjoyed by snowmobilers in winter, ATV'ers in summer, as well as hikers, joggers, cyclists, or just anyone wanting a scenic stroll. I have many ideas on how I'd like to use my agricultural property in tandem with the tourist trade.
