I have been planning to move to BC for 3 years, right after finishing my Arts diploma in Ontario. After a decade of working as a graphic designer for the marketing industry, I decided to pursue my real passion, which is growing food. I come from a family that owns a couple of small farms in Brazil. I believe in the power of hands-on learning, living on-site, and building community and relationships with the land. Farming is an activity very much connected to family for me so I look at farming mentors as people I respect very much. So far my experiences are limited. I have volunteered in community gardens in Toronto during Spring/Summer (Cedarvale and Oriole Parks). Most of the work done there was weeding, harvesting, pruning. Most recently I had the opportunity to work on a self-sufficient farm on Denman Island. Owned by a proficient gardener and food grower, this internship gave me the opportunity to work on landscaping, small carpentry jobs, chainsaw work, lots of pruning fruits and ornamentals, amending soil, and other Winter demands around the garden and the house.
