I grew up in california and came to ON almost 2 years ago to be near family and do an internship on a small family farm. I am in my second year at the farm and know that this is what I want to do with my life.
I am interested in production/market gardening vegetables, ecological gardening and permaculture. I envision an intensively planted, well-managed market garden of a few acres or less, surrounded by a diverse permaculture forest orchard with herbs, vegetables, and cover crops.
- 1.5 years farm internship on a local ON family farm.
- gardening experience in California, where I grew up
- permaculture design course
- web development and programming skills
> I am currently working on a farm management desktop application. I will put a link below when it is closer to being done.
The main plan is to keep my head in the clouds and my feet on the ground:
I want to have a diverse market garden of 0.5 to 5 acres, intensively managed, probably with a walk-behind tractor, no bigger. This will be the initial focus. Start with what is profitable and more known to work.
This will be surrounded by a permaculture-type food forest system. Fruits, nuts, nitrogen-fixers, diverse understory, low-maintenance, herbs, wild veggies, perennials, everything. Inspiration drawn from: Matsunobu Fukuoka (One Straw Revolution), Mark Shepherd (STUN system), Sepp Holzer, The 'Permaculture Orchard' guy.
