Farm description

David Ysselstein’s farm is a beef feedlot. We feed 2200 cows approximately on an acreage located at the south of Woodstock. On the same farm, we also have broiler breeder chickens for hatching egg production. Our farm produces fertilized eggs that will hatch into baby chicks.

Business Location: 465065 Curries Road, Woodstock, ON, N4S 7V8 Work Location: Same as above and 524740 Curry road, Woodstock, ON, N0J 1A0 Type of Employment: Full time – Permanent Estimated Start Date: As soon as possible Job Description: Maintain quality control and production records Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed Maintain work records and logs Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment Sort, brand and handle animals Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment Assist with breeding activities Detect disease and health problems in livestock Monitor animal health and provide care Assist in the development and implementation of farm safety and bio-security procedures Hire and train staff Organize tasks to accomplish the work Treat livestock health issues Maintain financial and production records Formulate feeding program Maintain livestock performance records Direct farm feed inventory activities Prepare animals for transportation Perform general farm duties Requirements: -Education: Completion of secondary school is required. -Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in the field is required. If the candidate does not have a minimum of 2 years of experience, then a college certificate or other specialized training in agriculture of livestock husbandry is required. -Working Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Attention to detail, Fast-paced environment, Large workload, Repetitive tasks, Physically demanding, Combination of sitting, standing, walking, Bending, crouching and kneeling, Standing for extended periods of time, Handling heavy loads, Work under pressure, Overtime required. -Personal suitability: Flexibility, Team player, Organized, Efficient interpersonal skills, Initiative, Values and Ethics, Judgement. -Ability to Supervise: 2-4 people -Work site environment: Noisy, Outdoors, Dusty, Odours. -Weigh Handling: Up to 23kg (50 lbs.) -Language: English is required. Salary: $24.00 hourly, 55 hours per week Benefits: Accommodation and bonus at the end of the year are provided. Important Information: The regular schedule will be from Monday to Friday. The candidate will work 9-11 hours per day set anywhere between 5 AM and 8 PM. Flexibility on schedule is required as some days will start earlier and others finish later. Weekend work, overtime, as well as, work during holidays will be required based on the business needs.
