Farm description
This is a gorgeous property nestled in gentle hills on the south shore of Georgian Bay. The property is 93 acres, with about 60 acres that can be farmed, which are currently being conventionally farmed in cash crops by tenants. They are on lease until 2031. Currently there are about 3 acres that could be made into field or pasture right away. Eventually, with negotiation of those leases, there is opportunity to farm all 60 acres. There is a creek running through the property (with 2 swimming holes!) and a wood lot. There is a 3 bedroom house where I live, which I would happily share. There is also the opportunity to park a tiny home or eventually build an ADU. We don't have much in the way of infrastructure, because all my money goes to paying the mortgage. But there is ample opportunity to build and develop things as needed. I do have a really strong social net within the community, so if you need a "guy" for just about any job, if I don't know them myself, I know someone who knows them!
Farm opportunity
Putting this out there because why not? This opportunity is unique and won't suit most people. But I welcome interested folks to reach out and talk about how they think it could work for them. I currently share the property with landmates, none of whom farm, and I am seeking a landmate (or landmates) with the skills, knowledge, and interest to work the land. I personally have many years experience as a farm hand, but I don't have the capacity to be a farm business manager. I am seeking someone with a farm dream which also intersects with a collective living dream. The ideal candidate(s) would have full access to the property and shared living spaces, and would generally be encouraged to follow their farming dreams. My priority for type of farm business is not what is being produced, but that the producer(s) are skilled, reliable, and responsible. I'm handy and really enjoy helping with other people's projects, but am also happy to stay out of things and just putter away at my own stuff. Everyone on the farm is LGBTQ+, and we like it that way. We do aim to be as inclusive as possible, but I am aiming to attract members of the LGBTQ community, as land access and rural living for queer folk has its particular quirks and barriers. Some shared values are - Resource sharing and collective living - Relationships with Indigenous folks and the land centered on truth and reconciliation - General anti-oppressive, social-justice-mindedness - Being a part of the neighbourhood - We have some really great redneck neighbours, and local queer community For the short term I am seeking landmates, but the long term plan could involve succession as I want to see the land stay in trusted hands.
