Farm description

New Moon Community homestead (the company I represent) is the operations management company for Rose Land Trust who owns the 200 acre parcel of land in which we operate on. Rose land trust has owned the land for over 30 years and New Moon was established in 2021 by Mike Courey, to step in a few years after the previous couple retired. Rose Land trust has 4 mandates; to make biodynamic agriculture possible, to bring the urban and rural communities together, to hold the land free from development, and to assist others in similar work. This land is a real Gem with the Ausable river running right through the middle of it, 110 acres of workable land, and the other 90 acres made up of bush, river, and some buildings including; a barn, shop, storage building, farm house, and store with a living roof! We hope to be able to develop this property into an incubator to train young farmers. If and when we accomplish that first step Rose will then start looking to increase its portfolio of properties and match trained apprentices with the land they need to start.

Farm opportunity

This season we will be grazing cattle, chickens, and pigs as well as operating a 5 acre market garden, attending multiple farmers markets, catering some events, and delivering weekly CSA baskets. If you would like to gain hands on experience operating a community homestead we would love to have you out volunteering once or twice a week! We will be looking for some part time employees and will likely save those funds for individuals who will still volunteer some time as well. Eventually New Moon will likely become a cooperative once a core team has time to establish relationships.
