Farm description

(updated January 2024) The GARDEN of EATING was established in 2014, near beautiful Georgian Bay and close to Meaford. Currently, there are * inoculated shiitake and oyster mushroom logs * 2 acres of woody polyculture of diverse fruit, nut, berry, and perennial plants * incorporated my business of permaculture design, produce sales, mushroom log sales, and hosting workshops on the property The remainder of the property consists predominately of woodlot, with 35 acres in hay in Class 1 soil. House construction started in 2019 and is ongoing as we focus on interior finishing while continuing existing farm activities. The house is designed with passive solar principles, sunroom, and cold cellar.

Farm opportunity

Mentoring: I have a permaculture design certificate and specialize in forest gardening, wild and edible plants, mushroom cultivation, site design, water systems, and social permaculture. I have hosted farm volunteers for 8 years, and also host workshops and tours. Help: Currently my operations are busiest in early spring (transplanting, grafting, mushroom logs), mid-summer (berry harvesting), and late fall (winter prep, apple picking). I also work-trade with friends and at nearby ecological farms and tend to established plantings on nearby properties. The opportunity exists to assist with interior finishing as well as outdoor gardening. Partnership: possibilities are open to incorporating additional people and complementary farm operations such as market gardening, livestock, and value-added products. Farm guests stay in 1 of 2 trailers with beds and basic electricity. A tiny house is available for long-term accommodations. Indoor accommodation may become available as the house build progresses. Starting in 2022 we will be setting up a hoophouse for community gardeners and others to use..
