Farm description

We are a small certified organic farm about 15 miles from Lloydminster, SK. Lloydminster is a border city with a population of around 30, 000. Lloydminster is about 2.5 hours from both Edmonton, AB and Saskatoon SK. Our farm was transitioned to a certified organic farm in 1993, my parents sold organic cereal crops for many years. The land was sowed down to grass about 7 years ago. The land layout consists of pasture land, shrub hedge rows every 20 acres, and 3 dugouts. Our land is set up in paddocks with wire and electric fencing. We use very little equipment but our old tractors still work well, they just need a little TLC from time to time. On our farm we raise broiler chickens, pigs and turkeys in the summer months and egg layers through the winter. We have a small clientele that we sell our chickens, eggs and pork to. We custom rotational graze our neighbours (commercial) cattle from June- October. Last summer we made a connection with a local beekeeper with the plan to bring his hives in this spring. We are excited to see bees add value to the wide flowers and trees, while the bee keeper's can expand their business.

Farm opportunity

We would like to expand our gardening knowledge, as well as our vegetable and fruit production. It would be nice to increase our freezing and canning to sustain us through the year. We are looking for people that are like minded, have a love for the land and are able to cooperate to grow and raise healthy food. We have experience in the livestock listed above, but would like to expand our knowledge in permaculture, soil biology, and other animals. We understand the importance of community and cooperation. We are open to new ideas and want to set up a partnership with someone that wants to pursue their passion and dreams for farming that are similar to ours, specifically in gardening. We are looking for a person(s) that has their own ambitions, are able to be independent in some farming and personal projects but are willing to work as team in other farming developments. We believe in trading, sharing and working for the common goal of feeding ourselves and selling any additions, with the possibility of setting an agricultural cooperative in the future.
