Farm description

I bought the 20 acre farm with existing bank barn, house and outbuildings in 2007, added fencing, ponds, greenhouses, orchard, and equipped it for livestock, four season market gardening, fruit and berries. It was farmed conventional for 50 yrs before me by the Shewfelts, before that the Harris' family ran a mixed fruit and vegetable farm. First deeded in 1790. My vision is to be a link in the local food network, growing food, teaching, stewarding as a permaculture demonstration site. We understand that it is not too extreme to say the earth ecology is in crisis and abrupt changes are likely in the next decade. That said, the Great Lakes Basin is well suited to adapting to climate change and disruption in food security and energy supply. Hence our focus is on farming in a resilient way and contributing to the local community as best we can.

Farm opportunity

I am offering the farm fully equipped to be operated as a business by resident farmer(s). There is a modern loft apartment suitable for a single or couple, not for kids due to size. Current farm enterprises include cattle, chicken, eggs, vegetables and fruit, all organically raised.
