Farm description

The property is 24 acres of mixed forest and pasture located close to the Northumberland Forest about 20 minutes drive from Cobourg. For the past eleven years we have been homesteading on the property based on permaculture and ecological farming practices. We have been establishing a mixed fruit and nut natural orchard, gardening, bee keeping, raising chickens, growing mushrooms and improving the biodiversity found on the property. There is a main house (currently under construction and should be completed this spring) as well as a guest house, and potentially room to set up a tiny house or yurt or some such small dwelling. There will be a four season greenhouse attached to the house when it is complete and there currently is a small makeshift hoop house (which is very productive but needs some TLC) as well as a small greenhouse attached to the guest house. There is a lot of space for the development of extensive garden beds and the soil is an amazing sandy loam. Our intensions were to rotationally graze small livestock like sheep and or pigs through the mixed orchard, but we never got that far. Now there is just myself here, as my partner in this life project is sadly, no longer with us. I can not keep up with the projects we were working on when he passed away and am increasingly trying to reduce my workload to the bare minimum as I also work off farm fulltime to pay the bills. I'm looking for someone who can live here and pay some rent. Whoever that is must be interested in the same ecological agriculture ideas that my partner and I had about this place. You would be free to turn this property into the ecological farm of your dreams and reap any financial gains you are able to make from it. But you must be able to pay some rent. Maybe you want to live here but only homestead part time while working off farm, like I am currently doing. This could also work as long as you are able to pay some rent and actually help out with the up keep of the homestead. There is a lot of potential here.

Farm opportunity

This opportunity is ether for a single person or a couple who share an interest in permaculture /ecological/restorative agriculture practices and who would like to give homesteading a go with the potential to make some income or a living from the fruits of their labours. There are at least two farmer's markets close by and larger urban centres with potential markets that are a manageable drive away as well. CSA's are also an option. You must have your own means of transportation. There is a charger for electric vehicles on the property as well. Living arrangements...I would prefer to have a housemate(s) live in the main house with me when it is completed. Rent would be significantly less for you in this case as I would be able to rent out the guest house for an AirBnB to cover the shortfall. If you would prefer the privacy of the guest house (which is also understandable) rent would be more, (about $1600.00/month) so that I could cover the cost of the mortgage. Or there is the potential for you to set up your own tiny house or yurt or such, in which case we could negotiate rent. This homestead is a LGBTQ positive space and welcoming to all races and ethnicities. I have great neighbours and you will be expected to interact with them on a regular basis because thats what good neighbours do.
