Overview

I am a young lawyer with a young family. My wife and I have 2 small children and are looking to learn more about farming. We are seeking a more balanced, sustainable lifestyle outside the city more connected with the earth and its natural processes and homesteading practices. Ideally, helping with a farm enterprise would supplement other part-time work and help us move toward a more self-sustaining and autonomous approach.

Experience

My wife and I have long had an interest in natural health remedies and gardening, though we are admittedly beginners in the details of a farm enterprise. However I am a practicing lawyer with an experience in relevant legal and business matters.

Partner(s)

We are open to different kinds of arrangements. We have good friends (a couple other young families) with extensive farming experience who would likely be interested in helping out if suitable.

Farm Vision

Ideally, our young family would cultivate a homesteading lifestyle and basic farming enterprise that would supplement my work as a part-time lawyer. We would eventually hope to steward farm enterprise with a modest range of livestock (at least chickens, maybe pigs), and a plethora of herbs and vegetables, and enhance the value of our products by home fermenting, canning, etc. Our approach would emphasize natural health, nutrition, and pesticide-free products as far as possible.

Relationship with Farm Owner

We would like to partner with someone who could provide mentorship on various farming practices and help us develop our dream of living more autonomously off the land and modestly providing for others in the community. We would love to learn about biodynamic farming and permaculture if possible The ideal circumstance would be renting a home for our family on a farm property, and having access to the expertise and experience of a seasoned farmer with whom we are aligned in terms of values and worldview.
