I am an Australian woman who has spent the last 3 years on a variety of permaculture based projects, my husband and I have been looking for land to start a farm on, we are looking for somewhere that could be a long term arrangement. We dream of having a market garden, and orchard, maybe a few goats and some chickens. We are looking for community styled living where we can share the land with another family and to be involved in the greater community. I am a Birth Doula just finishing my training, looking to take on women to work closely with. I have plenty of experience in food processing (fermenting, pickling and preserving). We wish to live a simpler life closer to the land in a more connected way, eating locally and creating more of what we need rather than purchasing.

Experience

I have experience working in administrative positions, I completed an internship in British Columbia, I was managing the garden, growing the food for the community, and the local town that we would sell to. I also did a lot fo the organizing and coordinating within the community, ordering food, tending to spaces and orienting new arrivals. I have also worked as an assistant manager at a hostel in Edinburgh. I am organized and focussed and able to manage a variety of projects at once. Recently I worked on land based projects, I worked closely with milking cows, sheep, pigs, ducks and chickens as well as big garden spaces.

I will be farming with my husband, he has a diploma in small scale agriculture and has worked on many of the same projects as i have.

Farm Vision

I would love to start a market garden and tend to the land, maybe eventually planting some fruit and nut trees. I would like to have animals, knowing that a healthy and balanced ecosystem has animals present. I am interested in potentially a nursery business, also able to do preserves and food processing. I would also love to eventually maybe have a small guesthouse where people could stay and interact with the land during their stay.

Relationship with Farm Owner

I would be happy to tend to animals and a garden the famers already has, and discuss about how i can assist and extend gardens where suitable. I would like a relationship that i am able to learn from but also feel heard and like the farmer is willing to listen to my ideas. I want to feel like the land I am living on is something i have a say over. I would like to contribute to development of ideas they may have while also having a sense of creative freedom and autonomy within boundaries.
