Overview
Small scale hobby farmer (quail, chickens, some veg and herb) looking to expand to larger property on a lease to own, or potential purchase in the right area and price. Looking for private farm, with farmgate sales possible, not looking to continue on CSA.
Experience
Owner of successful holistic health food store for pets - we raise our own quails for meat and eggs, for human consumption and for pets. We raise our own meat chickens (again for people and pets). Looking to expand our acreage to accommodate larger number of animals, and incorporate more diverse regenerative and climate farming practices.
Partner(s)
Family farms with me.
Farm Vision
Looking for at least 5 acres, so we can rotate livestock through the area and have enough left over for growing some veg and herbs, along with grains for our birds. We raise organic birds and livestock, and allow them full free ranging. Meat birds are not in 'tractors' but out with as much space to move as they desire. Need at least partially treed for hiding spots and shade. Can work with a fenced area to protect them from predators as needed. Ideally we can provide awesome quality of life for our animals, and farm gate /farmers market sales to our local community. We believe in shopping local, knowing your farmers and how they grow the food they sell, and neighbours helping neighbours.
Relationship with Farm Owner
We would ideally like to build up our farm land and production over time, via lease to own. We currently run a business and have a house with a mortgage, so ideal situation is local (to our store) farm with house we can buy outright, or if further away, a lease to own option until we are ready to pass on the store to new owners, while we farm in the summers.
