Overview

I'm a long-time Ottawa resident and co-owner of the local and ecologically focused sawmill: https://thompsontimbers.ca/. I have always wanted to run an organic homestead and am looking for some people to partner with in order to build a network of co-operative ventures to improve food security for the region.

Experience

I have experience volunteering on a number of organic farms. I also run a local and ecologically focused mobile sawmill (https://thompsontimbers.ca/), in which our goal is to provide locally source and ethically harvested quality wood products to the Ottawa community.

Partner(s)

I will likely have some assistance from family and friends, however, I will be largely working alone on the farm, especially during the early phases.

Farm Vision

I would like to setup a non-profit food co-op that aims to provide ethically raised food products to members at cost, while working to regenerate the soil. The initial focus will be upon raising broiler chickens (and possibly rabbits) following a similar approach as is being used at https://www.polyfacefarms.com/. Longer term, the hope is to serve as a community hub and demonstration center for individuals who are interested in starting projects focused on food security and off-grid living.

Relationship with Farm Owner

I would be open to a fairly wide range of possible relationships. However, the ideal scenario would be to work the land in exchange for some of the proceeds of products raised on the farm or lumber products (through Thompson Timbers), or someone who shares our vision of improving food security through co-operative efforts.
