Overview

I am looking to lease 2 acres of A+ farmland on Vancouver Island on which to start a biodynamic market garden. I am looking for a long term situation on zoned land which is unlikely to be put on the market in the foreseeable future. I have ten years experience running a business and two years of experience working on an organic market garden. I completed a hands on introductory course in Biodynamics through the Rudolf Steiner College Canada. In addition to stand and market sales I would like to offer a u-pick market experience thereby improving access to affordable nutritious food providing opportunities to learn about gardening, food preservation, and seasonal food preparation interfacing with existing local food security groups. My method of farming is to establish semi-intensive permanent beds, use green manures, appropriate rotation, biodynamically prepared compost, moveable greenhouses to extend the growing season, minimal cultivation while following the biodynamic calendar. Dedicated participation in a Biodynamic study group while providing internship and networked workshop opportunities for the greater community. I am an experienced musician, software developer, an established entrepreneur of sewn products, a good cook, community organizer, gardener, a strong experienced worker and family man. I am a creative problem solver and a passionate designer of systems.

Experience

Biodynamic, and Anthroposophy studies - hands on, and remote. 2 years on certified organic farm (market, and csa). 2 years farm internship studies. Founded and ran Puddle Jump Bags for 10+ years.

Partner(s)

Starting alone with mentorship help. Continue involvement with Biodynamic community. Bring on interns and volunteers as practicable. Offer public participation from the beginning. Will get the appropriate insurance.

Farm Vision

A sustainable community farm which provides opportunities for public engagement while offering affordable highly nutritious produce. A gathering place to connect with each other while connecting with nature. A place of potential for everyone who happens upon the farm. Provide opportunities for existing farm and food organizations including food security, educational, and youth groups. Provide opportunities for folks of all ages and abilities. A place of decency.

Relationship with Farm Owner

Long term relationship based on sustainable stewardship and mutual respect. Highest level of independence. Water access necessary, roadside land access preferred, well drained soil and existing fencing a plus, investment opportunity.
