Overview
Hello, my name is Rachelle. I grew up enjoying my grandparents' mixed hobby farm in Saskatchewan. From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a Farmer like my grandparents. I went to school and studied Social Work with the intent to be actively involved in food security and pursued a practicum working on a farm in Manitoba. For the years when I was living in the city, I was busy gardening heirloom herbs and veggies. Ideally, I would like to find an opportunity to expand my experience working on a small scale farm growing herbs, fruit, and bees, as well as sheep, horses and cattle. I am looking for land within half an hour of Winnipeg to practice organic, regenerative, sustainable, permaculture practices of farming, especially with other women! I am open to different options to access land, so if this sounds like a fit, I would be happy to talk more about working together. Thanks for reading :)
Experience
I grew up on a farm and have 10 years of gardening experience growing vegetables and herbs. I have worked on a few farms and with a few urban community gardening groups.
Partner(s)
I will be farming alone, but I am a Mother to 3 children and I would like to be within half an hour of the north perimeter of Winnipeg. If we could live on farm, that would be great, but I would also be ok driving from the city.
Farm Vision
I am planning a farm start up business growing herbs, fruit and raising bees. I would also like to include chickens, sheep and horses later on as well.
Relationship with Farm Owner
I am interested in finding another female farmer to mentor me and/or I am looking for access to land through leasing or purchasing. I am also open to work opportunities.
